[SMM Analysis: December Tin Solder Production Remains Stable with Slight Increase as Downstream Enterprises Approach Chinese New Year Holiday] Based on processing data from market exchanges, SMM reports that the tin solder production of domestic sample enterprises in December showed a slight increase compared to November. Meanwhile, the overall sample operating rate rose to 75.97%. However, entering January, we predict a significant decline in total sample production, down 28.95% MoM. Correspondingly, the overall sample operating rate in January also decreases to 53.98%.
Based on processing data from market exchanges by SMM, the December production of tin solder by domestic sample enterprises showed a slight increase compared to November. Meanwhile, the overall operating rate of the samples increased to 75.97%. However, entering January, we expect the total sample production to decrease significantly, with an estimated drop of 28.95% MoM. Correspondingly, the overall operating rate of the samples in January is expected to decline to 53.98%. In December 2024, the production of Chinese tin solder enterprises remained stable with slight growth. As the month was not affected by long holidays, production time was ensured, maintaining production efficiency. Additionally, most end-user enterprises began pre-holiday stockpiling and placed large orders with downstream solder enterprises at low tin prices. This market shift positively influenced production plans, driving an increase in production. In summary, in December 2024, Chinese tin solder enterprises achieved MoM growth in production under a stable production environment, reflecting a positive industry development trend. Meanwhile, the steady growth in demand for tin solder provided further momentum for enterprise development. Looking ahead, based on current market trends and order conditions, due to the impact of the Chinese New Year holiday, production time in January will be significantly reduced. As a result, the order volume for tin solder enterprises in January is expected to remain at a low level. Overall, we anticipate a significant decline in industry production.  》Click to View the SMM Metal Industry Chain Database

[SMM Tin News Flash: South Korean Finance Minister Says Economic Growth Rate Will Exceed 2% This Year]
South Korea's Finance Minister Gu Runzhe said he expected the country's economic growth to exceed 2% this year, supported by surging global semiconductor demand. "We expect growth to exceed 2% this year," Gu said, adding that the specific pace would depend on the chip cycle and the Middle East war. Gu noted that robust exports surged 48% in April, resulting in a trade surplus of $23.8 billion. The country's current account surplus also jumped to a record $37.3 billion in March. Even so, he said, "inflation and the real estate market are immediate risk factors" that the government needs to address as a priority.

Minsur, the world's second-largest refined tin producer, reported that its Pisco smelter in Peru produced 8,314 mt of refined tin in Q1 2026, down 2.9% YoY. The company attributed the slight decline in tin production to lower feed grades and reduced recovery rates at the smelter. Meanwhile, rising tin prices drove a 16.9% YoY increase in net revenue, effectively offsetting the impact of the production decline. Tin-in-concentrates production from the San Rafael underground mine fell 2.0% YoY to 6,096 mt due to lower recovery rates, but this was partially offset by a 3.3% increase in production from the B2 tailings dam. Total tin-in-concentrates production was basically flat YoY at 7,993 mt. The mill feed grade at the San Rafael mine remained stable at 2.40% Sn.
